According to Hollywood insiders, the 21 years old actor is leaving for sure High School Musical and its “themed” movies to try his luck on an upcoming Thriller based movie.
A friend insider claims Zac wants to grow up on his job as he is growing up as a person. He is not a little boy anymore, the same person says.

Zac Efron has signed to star in an untitled thriller for Mandate Pictures, which is being written by Leslie Dixon.
The plot is being kept under wraps but it is described as “a sexy thriller.” The deal continues the evolution of Efron from the teen heartthrob of the “High School Musical” franchise to a more mature leading man, and also sees him stepping into producing shoes. He will act as executive producer with Mandate’s Nathan Kahane.
Frequent Mandate collaborator Greg Shapiro of Kingsgate Films (”The Hurt Locker”), Jason Barrett, and Dixon will produce.
Nicole Brown will oversee the project for Mandate.
Efron and Dixon, a respected veteran writer whose credits include 1999’s “The Thomas Crown Affair and “Freaky Friday,” first worked together on “Hairspray.”
No director is on board.

High School Musical star Zac Efron has revealed that he wants to play Luke Skywalker in George Lucas’ new Star Wars
The actor loved the chance to play with props from the original ”Star Wars” franchise in his current movie ”17 Again” and says he would jump at the chance to play one of the sci-fi programme’s most famous characters.
“There were real stormtrooper outfits, real memorabilia from the movie. There were a lot of valuable things we were wrecking in that house. That element, that nerd part of the film, is right up my alley,” Contactmusic quoted Efron as telling MovieHole.net.
“I was so at home in that house. I would look at everything for hours. I have pictures with Darth Vader and Chewbacca.
“George Lucas is doing a Star Wars TV series? Oh man. I”ll have to put in a phone call. Young Skywalker? Yeah… Bring it On,” he added.
Mark Hamill played Skywalker in the original Star Wars movies.

Hollywood actor Zac Efron and his girlfriend Vanessa Hudgens are gearing up to feature in a comedy skit to be aired on comedian Will Ferrell’s website FunnyOrDie.com. The rib-tickling comedy will feature both alongside Nicole Richie and Thomas Lennon, who plays Efron’’s Uncle Hank.
It has been directed by Adam Shankman, reports OK! magazine. Its been reported that the cast had a blast shooting for the comedy skit. “It was a quick shoot and everyone had a blast!” Contactmusic quoted a source as saying.
The skit will premiere in American cinemas later this month.
He may be the teenage sensation of the moment, but Zac Efron isn’t necessarily one to indulge in the latest technology of the day.
“I don’t have a Twitter, a MySpace or a Facebook or anything like that,” says the star of the new comedy 17 Again. “I kind of value in people not knowing where I am or what I’m doing.”
To demonstrate his take on the typical posting, he says with a laugh: “I’m on the toilet. Still on the toilet. Guys, dot-dot-dot, out of TP. Still on the toilet.”
On the screen, in 17 Again, he plays Mike O’Donnell – a high school hotshot who had it all, but gives it all up to settle down with his then-girlfriend.
Twenty years later, his life is falling apart, and O’Donnell would give anything to go back and do it all over again – and, after a fall into the river that sends him back through time, he does. Only things are different now.
In fact, Efron, who was a teen not so long ago, says, “It’s hard when you’re a teenager because everything is heightened.” Speaking at a Los Angeles press junket for the movie, he recalled, “Just talking to a girl feels harder than anything I have done in the last couple years.”
His advice to teens about life?
“Take it seriously, but have a sense of humor about it. A sense of humor is one of the most valuable tools you can have as a teenager. That’s one thing that helped me early on through life and high school was to remember to laugh at how ridiculous life was.”
Back in The United States of America, Zac Efron made a surprise appearance at the 2009 Nickelodeon Kid Choice Awards this Saturday March 28th.
Wearing some comfortable shoes, denim jeans and white t-shirt, the teen star was the most requested of the starts at KCA 2009.
